Ellen Phillips Samuel Memorial
Central Terrace
Conditions Assessment, Spring 2007
The Samuels Memorial, located on Kelly Drive in East Fairmount Park, was designed by Paul Cret and built between 1933 and 1961. The Central Plaza, surrounded by limestone walls and niches on the east and west side, was surveyed and assessed by the Trust in the Spring of 2007. After assessment, treatment recommendations were made for the terrace.
This comprehensive survey included archival research, creation of baseline documentation, creation and implementation of a conditions survey and the creation of a final report. The final report included a detailed summary of all existing conditions and recommendations for repair in both written and visual forms. These drawings and recommendations were used in the bid solicitation process.
